The Australian Medical Association has insisted that any savings from cutting Medicare rebates should be put back into general practice, such as grants to improve patient services. While the AMA has supported the concept of the MRFF, doctors believe any savings should benefit patients more directly. Ley said money was already flowing into the MRFF but it has not yet been established because legislation has yet to be written. Given her negotiations, Ley will not guarantee the funds raised from a co-payment would be put into the fund, as promised in the 2014 budget."
